Robert Castelli is
a third generation drummer from New York city.
In addition to learning the basics from his father
(a pro for 40 years), he has studied with some
of the best drummers in the world, including Ed
Soph, Kim Plainfield, Gary Chester (a boyhood
friend of his dad), Robbie Gonzalez, Tony “Thunder”
Smith, Robbie Ameen, Horacio “El Negro”
Hernandez, and Joe Ascione.
He has played and/or recorded
with well known and up and coming artists in just
about every style (Pop, Rock,Funk,Jazz,Latin,World,
Musical Theater etc..) in the USA & Europe,
from small clubs to stadiums. "I like
to learn" Robert says.
His music and playing have been
written about in the NY Times online, Cadence
magazine, Jazz Halo Belgium, Drums & Percussion
De, Drums Etc. Canada, Concerto magazine Austria,
Jazzwise Magazine London and Drummer Mag UK .
This class will focus
on groove (the most important thing!) and independence.
Topics will include, practice routines for hands
only, feet only and hands and feet together.
Robert will also be looking at grooving in different
styles: Jazz, Funk, Latin (Brazilian/Afro-Cuban)
and Rock.
Robert will be demonstrating exercises to “flow”
within any of these styles.
