Robert Castelli

Saturday 27th June 2009, 1pm to 4pm

Robert Castelli is a third generation drummer from New York city.
In addition to learning the basics from his father (a pro for 40 years), he has studied with some of the best drummers in the world, including Ed Soph, Kim Plainfield, Gary Chester (a boyhood friend of his dad), Robbie Gonzalez, Tony “Thunder” Smith, Robbie Ameen, Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez, and Joe Ascione.

He has played and/or recorded with well known and up and coming artists in just about every style (Pop, Rock,Funk,Jazz,Latin,World, Musical Theater etc..) in the USA & Europe, from small clubs to stadiums. "I like to learn" Robert says.

His music and playing have been written about in the NY Times online, Cadence magazine, Jazz Halo Belgium, Drums & Percussion De, Drums Etc. Canada, Concerto magazine Austria, Jazzwise Magazine London and Drummer Mag UK .

This class will focus on groove (the most important thing!) and independence. Topics will include, practice routines for hands only, feet only and hands and feet together.
Robert will also be looking at grooving in different styles: Jazz, Funk, Latin (Brazilian/Afro-Cuban) and Rock.
Robert will be demonstrating exercises to “flow” within any of these styles.
