"I sold my scrambler to get my first set of drums,
set it up in my bedroom, started practicing and played
my first gig within one month. I then took lessons from
a local teacher, and played in various bands for the
next five years, including Zebda, now an established
band on the French scene. Back in the UK, I enrolled
at Goldsmiths College where I studied for the next three
years. I also joined the Musicians Institute for a year
of full time drumming studies."
"After this, I joined Irish outfit The Shanakies.
We supported Blur on their European tour and had a lot
of fun. The French loved us and we ended up headlining
at the Paris Olympia. We recorded the single "Barbed
Wire", a radio favorite for a while, then built
our studio in a Brixton basement to work on more demos.
When the band split up, I started the Planet Drum with
German drummer Mirko Schmitt, who is presently running
the Planet Drum Berlin."
"Shortly afterwards I was heading to the States
with American band Jepp, to play at the Lilith Fair,
America's biggest ever travelling festival. Before flying
over, we recorded a 3 track EP, "Superglue Low"
with Radiohead producer Phil Vinall. I shared the studio
drum chair with J.T Lewis, then on tour with Sting.
Coming back to England, I started recording demos with
singer songwriter Alex Grayson. I also set up a commercial
recording studio in London bridge, in which we produced
music for film."
"I missed playing drums regularly after a while,
so I packed up the recording studio business. I took
the opportunity to fly to Cuba to study congas and drumset
with some great players such as Luis Abru from the legendary
rumba band Los Papines. I have spent the last few years
playing in various experimental, Rock, Funk, Blues,
Latin and Jazz projects in London and more recently
around Berkshire where I live. I enjoy playing drums
more than ever and I am very glad to have the opportunity
to work at Planet Drum to be able to communicate my
passion to our students."
